RGC member Christmas party!

Just a reminder that this years' Christmas party for members will be at 12:30 (or so) on Saturday, December 8th at the Alpine Inn in Hill City. Be sure to save room for their delicious desserts!

Additionally, we'll be collecting care packages for Veterans as we've done every year. Suggested items are deodorant, lotion, socks, card games, sweets, movies...pretty much anything you think someone might like if they had to spend their Christmas at the Fort Meade Veteran's Hospital. The staff at the VA request that any items donated should not contain any alcohol (so no aftershave or mouthwash).

An afternoon of Brahms

Karen Psiaki, soprano singer, and Pianist James ('Jim') MacInnes will be presenting an afternoon of music by famed German composer Johannes Brahms.

Hailing from the Rapid City area, the talented duo share a love of German culture, and each of spent time in ther youth studying or working in Hamburg, the city where Johannes Brahms was born.

They are presenting a program of Brahms piano music and songs next Sunday afternoon in Rapid City at Tuscan square at 2:00pm.  Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.

2012 Sommerfest Begins!

Ein Prosit! This year the Rushmore German Club will celebrate their 40th Anniversary and their 30th anniversary of their annual Sommerfest German Tent at the Central States Fair.

This year’s Sommerfest officially opens on Friday, August 17 with a keg tapping ceremony at 8pm and performances throughout the evening by a traditional German folk acting troupe from New Ulm, MN called the Narren. The Narren are a preserved part of old German folklore, wearing colorful clothing and large wooden masks with grotesquely exaggerated features and unique personalities.  The Narren are described as “the relative everyone has but nobody wants to claim,” and their mischievous actions make sure spirits are high.

The New Ulm Narren will perform at the Sommerfest on August 17 and 18 from 7pm to 10pm.

Read more about the Narren here!

This year’s Sommerfest will feature live music from North Dakota’s Marvin and the Moonlighters on each night from Friday, August 17 to Monday August 20.  Rick Borger and the Average German Band will close out the week playing nightly from Tuesday until Saturday, August 25.  The bands will perform nightly from 7pm to midnight.
